When Symmons moved into their new corporate headquarters, they wanted three permanent displays showing a small sample of their bath, shower and kitchen products. The vignettes needed to reflect the aesthetics and quality their products are known for.
Downing’s design team worked with the client to create a distinctive group of displays fitting a leader in innovative plumbing products. The design elements and materials in the niches create real-world environments that reinforce Symmons commitment to durability, reliability and beautiful products for residential and commercial applications.

Downing Enterprises Awards Presentation

On December 23, 2014, Downing Enterprises recognized Cindy Smalley and Mark Corrigan with awards for outstanding customer service and sales achievement.

Cindy’s success is based on excellent customer care.  She has been with Downing since 2008 and in the tradeshow business for 25 years. Cindy is proud of the fact that more than half of her client base have been with her for decades.  She is also excited about several new customers that will be exhibiting at the upcoming NAFEM show.  With the Downing team supporting her efforts she has no trouble keeping her customers happy! Mark Corrigan has been with Downing for 19 years and specializes in both point-of-purchase and exhibit sales, He takes pride in providing extreme dedication to his clients. The 20th annual Rescuer of Humanity Awards dinner was held Wednesday, December 3 2014 at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. Mike Carano, Karen Gallaher and Joe Zingaro represented Downing Exhibits at the event.

Downing Wins Three DOT Awards

For more than 20 years, the Design of the Times competition has honored hundreds of leading P-O-P and packaging design firms. On October 21, 2014, judges gathered at the Shopper Marketing Conference & Expo in Minneapolis to review and judge finalists in the DOT competition.

The winners were  selected and celebrated at the Design of the Times Awards Reception and Ceremony on October 22. Downing received two bronze awards and one silver award.

Downing Exhibits Sponsors the Love Akron Awards Breakfast

The third annual awards breakfast of the Love Akron Network was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the John S. Knight Center in Akron, Ohio. Karen Gallaher, Mike Carano, Bridgett Shearer, Danielle Akins and Aaron Akins represented Downing Exhibits at the event which was attended by more than 600 guests.

The program of the awards breakfast recognized Judge Carla Moore, Dottie Achmoody and Perry Clark for their work in the community and to celebrate God’s call to serve the greater Akron area.

The Love Akron Network is a Christian, faith-based catalytic organization whose primary mission is to mobilize Christian leaders and people of good will to be servants to the city.

Design Students Gain Real-World Experience at Downing

Professor Dave Szalay of The University of Akron’s Myers School of Art brought a group of 14 students from the Environmental Graphic Design class to Downing Exhibits again this year. This has been the fifth year Downing and UA have met to discuss design trends, processes and presentations in the trade show industry. Graphic Design Director Bridgett Shearer and Senior Designer Tim Rasicci presented case studies and discussed future trends in trade show, marketing and advertising.

Mr. Szalay said, “My students really appreciate the opportunity to meet exhibit design professionals and learn how they solve unique design issues first hand. It is also very helpful for them to see exhibit materials, fixtures, and structures in person at Downing. This experience brings the topic to life.”

The Sound of Marketing

There are many aspects of marketing, but many people find themselves ignoring one of the most powerful tools for grabbing customers’ attention: The power of sound!

Many of the staff at Downing have a background working with audio and music. This experience is beneficial in organizing speech or music for presentations, special events, videos, lobbies, retail and trade show displays. But sound is often given the least amount of time and attention compared to other aspects of a presentation.

How can a company best use sound to their advantage? First you have to determine what needs to be accomplished with sound. Is it being used to educate and inform? Is it used to support a claim?Where is it being utilized? Is it for effect? Is it creating a mood?

If the sound is for a live speaker, there’s often a brief discussion right before the event about getting a microphone and sound amplifier. Is it really that simple? It’s not that simple if you want the best results. 

Not surprisingly, there are numerous types of microphones. There are wired, wireless, handheld, headset and lapel microphones. There are carbon, condenser, dynamic, piezoelectric & ribbon mics. Some pick up sound in all directions.. some in one direction. Some mics are made for a higher pitch voice; some are made for a lower pitch voice. Are we projecting only voice, or is there also going to be music or some other audio? Is the audio synchronized to video? Is the sound being projected in a noisy trade show hall, or is the sound in a fairly quiet corporate lobby? These are just SOME of the possible questions. The amplification system should be designed to match the venue of the presentation. It shouldn’t be just an afterthought, and it is definitely not “one size fits all!”

I always enjoy the opportunity to incorporate sound into my designs. The ultimate challenge is to engage ALL the senses in the experience we provide our customers, with the end result being success.

Downing Enterprises Wins Best in Show at Parker Hannifin!

Each year Parker Hannifin extends invitations to their engineering and business development teams to share their portfolio of innovative new products and submit one for consideration in a contest they call The Best Mousetrap. The competition is held at their headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.

The display that Downing designed and built for this competition won Best in Show!

We are grateful to Parker Hannifin for this honor and to the talented team from Downing who made it happen.

Downing Attends 2014 HCEA Annual Meeting in Cleveland

Downing Exhibits, as members of the Healthcare Convention and Exhibitors Association, attended and exhibited at the HCEA Annual Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday June 22 and Monday June 23.

The HCEA Meeting is the premier event for the industry’s leading healthcare exhibit marketers and medical association meeting and exhibition professionals.

Downing was represented at the show by Rick Harder, Mike Carano and Karen Gallaher. The show was a great opportunity for us to see some old friends and to meet some new ones! The event was a huge success with more than 68 exhibitors and 450 attendees.
